Only if you had listened...

Samantha was sipping her coffee enjoying the beautiful sunset from her new home's balcony. Lost in her thoughts, her face had lit up after a long time. But soon she was brought back to reality by Nirvaan's loud scream. She hurried back to his room to find him watching his favorite cartoon and crying like a baby all because his favorite character had lost the game. "Oh my god, why are you crying? It's just a cartoon character Nirvaan." But Nirvaan was so sad that he didn't want to listen. She tried for few minutes more to make him understand and then left him when his second favourite cartoon was on and he had already forgotten why he was crying. She felt like laughing out loud. She mumbled "My cute little clown." giving him a peck on his cheek before leaving him alone.

She went back in the balcony and joined Ryan, her husband. Samantha told Ryan about her moving in struggle. How her day started with packing some last minute stuff, dropping Nirvaan at her sister's place, returning to her previous apartment, taking care of all the moving out formalities, etc. At the end, she just mentioned how she missed him doing all this alone, how she craved for him to be taking care of all these things like always. Ryan couldn't see the pain in her eyes and tears started rolling down their cheeks. But what could he do now! He just hugged her and let her cry her heart out. Finally when she had calmed down, he held her hand and just said "Sorry." She replied "Only if you had listened to me."

There was a deep silence but their eyes spoke a lot. After sometime, Samantha got back to her chores. At dinner table, Nirvaan and Samantha sat and did a small prayer. Nirvaan looked at Ryan's photograph on the wall and said "Hope you had your dinner Daddy. I told God to give you your favourite kheer that Mom made tonight."

Samantha felt her heart had stopped beating but with heavy heart, she had to control her emotions for their munchkin. She replied "Nirvaan let's finish our dinner or Dad won't eat his kheer." Nirvaan with his innocent face looked at her and started eating.

6 months back, Ryan had stepped out for running some errands. Samantha reminded him to take his helmet but he didn't listen to her and left only with his bike keys. He had a bad habit of not using helmet while riding bike. Samantha never liked this and would always try to make him understand but in vain. 45 minutes had passed, Samantha received a call from Ryan's phone but some stranger was on the other side. In the next second, her world had turned upside down. She collapsed hearing what that stranger said. Ryan had met with an accident and he was no more. His head was seriously injured and he couldn't make it till he was taken to hospital. In few seconds, everything had changed.

6 months has passed now. She took a new job. Therefore, she moved to a place nearby her office. She still feels Ryan's presence. She waits for him every evening as usually she would do. She discusses her day to day activities with him. And as Ryan would always do, listens to her silently and gives her a hug at the end of conversation before she goes back to her reality, where it's now only Samantha and Nirvaan with Ryan's memories.
